Description

A beautiful vintage painting capturing a tender moment between a mother and her two children as they gather around open books. Their gently lowered faces and close arrangement create an intimate scene of learning, affection, and family togetherness.

Expressive brushwork and thickly applied paint—known as impasto—give the composition depth and texture. Warm golden tones, soft pinks, muted blues, and earthy shades bring a welcoming character to this touching family portrait. A lovely choice for a reading room, country home, or collection of vintage figurative art.

ARTIST & PERIOD

The painting dates from the first half of the 20th century. No artist’s name is visible on the work.

We strongly suspect that it may be a work by the French painter Abel Bertram (1871–1954). We found it in France. However, this attribution has not been authenticated. The painting is therefore offered as a work by an unidentified artist, with a possible attribution to Bertram.

CONDITION

This is a painting of good quality, with expressive handling of the paint and a particularly appealing subject.

Age-related craquelure—a network of fine cracks—is present across the painted surface. The canvas has been cleaned and revarnished. Please examine the detailed photographs carefully to appreciate the texture and visible condition.
